PSHE at Wynstream
Intent
Our intent is to provide a high-quality PSHE and Relationships curriculum that supports pupils’ personal, social and emotional development, helping them to become confident, respectful and healthy individuals. We use the PSHE Association Programme of Study to ensure our curriculum is progressive, age-appropriate and aligned with statutory Relationships Education guidance. In the EYFS, this intent is closely linked to Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), supporting children to develop self-regulation, positive relationships and an understanding of emotions from the earliest stage.
Implementation
PSHE and Relationships are taught using the PSHE Association’s planning framework, guidance and resources, which provide clear learning objectives, key vocabulary and appropriate teaching approaches. Lessons are adapted to meet the needs of all learners and are delivered through a range of engaging activities, discussion and reflection. In the EYFS, PSHE is embedded through daily routines, adult-led and child-initiated activities, stories and play-based learning, ensuring consistent opportunities to develop communication, social skills and emotional understanding.
Impact
As a result, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to manage relationships, understand emotions and make safe, positive choices. They demonstrate respect for themselves and others and show increasing confidence and resilience. In the EYFS, children make strong progress within PSED, showing improved self-awareness, cooperation and the ability to form positive relationships, providing a secure foundation for future PSHE learning
