World Ocean Day was Friday 7th June. We were contacted by the Environment Agency based here in Exeter, kindly offering our school a special trip to Exmouth Beach. They sent a coach so we were able to invite some of our most hard working children and their parents to come with us. The weather report was quite challenging and in the morning the rain was coming down horizontally! We were resilient and carried out a litter pick and treasure hunt for crabs, seaweed and shells on the beach. At 11:30 we went into the RNLI boat station for a warm up and an early lunch. By 12:30 the tide was dropping rapidly, exposing rock pools at the shore. The sun had come out and the rain had stopped. Six members of the Environment Agency team including marine biologists helped us scramble around rock pools where we discovered tiny crabs, starfish and very unusual shoreline creatures. At the end of the day, we were presented with a fabulous pair of books for our school library including a book about what we can find at the seashore.
